Head of Additional Learning Support – Foundation Learning

We are committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive education for learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and High Needs. Our Foundation Learning provision provides high-quality education and support for learners with a wide range of learning difficulties, disabilities and additional needs. 

Reporting to the Director of Foundation Learning - Curriculum and Support, in this newly created post you will be responsible for the management and quality of all additional learning support for High Needs learners. 

Main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Managing Additional Learning Support provision for High Needs learners within our college and co-ordinating the delivery of support, with responsibility for all associated funding, claims and documentation.
  • Ensuring that learners receive the full range of support to which they are entitled and identified within EHCPs in a timely manner and to the highest of standards
  • Leading and managing a team of staff, providing them with the inspiration, direction and support they need to deliver outstanding learning support.
  • Delivering against all agreed performance targets for the area - e.g. those relating to Additional Learning Support funding, Adult Skills Budget funding and recruitment, retention, attendance and achievement for learners with support needs

We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate the following:

  • Degree and/or professional experience at an appropriate level
  • Proven experience of managing additional learning support in a Further Education setting, leading to demonstrable improvements in learner experience and success
  • Experience of effectively assessing learners’ additional learning needs, accurately identifying support requirements and maintaining all associated records to the highest standard
  • Experience in working with Local Authorities and other agencies with regards to agreeing and negotiating High Needs placements and appropriate funding
  • Sound knowledge of Additional Learning Support funding and Adult Educational Budget funding relating to ALS
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND code of practice and experience of its implementation
  • Experience of leading teams and/or managing staff  

This post is based full time on campus and we are unable to offer remote/hybrid working.

Qualifications

·        Degree and/or professional experience at an appropriate level  

·        Maths and English at GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

·        Proven experience of managing additional learning support in a Further Education setting, leading to demonstrable improvements in learner experience and success

·        Experience of effectively assessing learners’ additional learning needs, accurately identifying support requirements, and maintaining all associated records to the highest standard

·        Experience in developing and improving relevant policies and procedures with regards to learners with additional learning needs

·        Experience in working with Local Authorities and other agencies with regards to agreeing and negotiating High Needs placements and appropriate funding

·        Experience in liaising with parents, carers and external bodies

·        Experience of contributing to quality processes, for example the self-assessment process and of using such processes to achieve demonstrable improvement

·        Working knowledge of managing or monitoring a budget, including efficient and cost-effective resource management

·        Ability to develop statistical and financial reports and analyse statistical and financial information

·        Experience of using management information systems and data to identify issues and opportunities to drive performance

·        Good digital literacy skills with the ability to produce and use spreadsheets to record, track, monitor and cost provision

·        Experience of successfully leading teams and/or managing staff 

·        Experience of setting, monitoring and achieving personal, team and organisational standards and performance targets

·        A broad knowledge of the infrastructure, services, challenges of and key strategic issues in the Further Education sector in particular in relation to issues that will impact on the area of responsibility
