About the role

A welcoming girls’ school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a caring, professional and reliable Teaching Assistant to join its team on a long-term basis.

The successful candidate will support a pupil with additional care needs and will be involved in providing intimate care approximately two or three times per day. This role would suit someone with a nursing, healthcare or clinical background who is confident providing personal care in a respectful, dignified and child-centred manner.

The successful applicant must be available to start ASAP.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide classroom and learning support to pupils.
  • Support one pupil with personal and intimate care needs.
  • Assist with intimate care approximately two or three times per day.
  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and school procedures.
  • Use appropriate manual-handling techniques and equipment.
  • Promote the pupil’s dignity, privacy, comfort and independence.
  • Support communication, engagement and participation in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, healthcare professionals and the wider school team.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential care and support records.
  • Identify and report any concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Follow safeguarding, infection-control, health and safety and confidentiality procedures.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment.

Essential requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A nursing, healthcare or relevant clinical background.
  • A degree-level qualification.
  • Current manual-handling training.
  • Experience, or strong understanding, of personal and intimate care.
  • Proficient spoken and written English skills.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with pupils, staff, families and professionals.
  • A calm, patient and compassionate approach.
  • The ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
  • Availability to start ASAP.

Previous experience working in a school, special educational needs setting, hospital, care environment or with children requiring personal care would be advantageous.

Intimate care will be carried out in accordance with the pupil’s care plan, safeguarding procedures and school policies, with appropriate training and support provided where required.
