Our Health and Social Care Section is a successful, dynamic and vibrant area of the College, delivering a range of courses to learners, primarily aged 16-19 to prepare them for careers in the health/social care sector.  We are seeking to appoint a qualified Nurse to fill this full time Lecturer post to teach across the Level 3 T Level Technical Qualification in Health and BTEC Health and Social Care Levels 1, 2 and 3.

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional who can demonstrate:

• Degree in Nursing
• Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
• Current/recent clinical experience gained within the health/social care sector
• Experience of teaching or training

Background

The post of lecturer involves considerable subject-based and pedagogic knowledge and understanding, and it is therefore essential that the post holder has a motivation for keeping themselves up-to-date with developments in their professional area and also in the practises of teaching and learning.  Lecturing is more than just teaching; it includes all aspects of the learning process, including preparation and planning, and the assessment and evaluation of students.  All post holders are expected to consistently review and assess their performance alongside colleagues and engage in positive and critical debate on pedagogic issues.  All lecturers must be committed to inclusive learning and ensuring that they take on the very best practice to meet individual learner needs including the promotion of equal opportunities.  All staff are required to implement College policies.  Further Education is an ever-changing service and all staff are expected to participate constructively in College activities and to adopt a flexible approach to their work.  This job description will be reviewed annually during the appraisal process and will be varied in the light of the business needs of the College.

Main purpose of the post:

The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning.  The Lecturer will teach, develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post-holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience. 

Qualifications

·       A degree in Nursing

·       Maths and English at GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve

·       Registered with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council)

·       A minimum of Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the Further Education setor (e.g DET, PGCE for FE or Secondary) or willingness and ability to work               towards qualification, supported by the College**

Knowledge and experience:

·       Teaching or training experience

·       Current or recent clinical experience gained within the Health/Social Care sector

·       Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area, with good knowledge of Biology

·       Knowledge of and ability to teach Health and Science

Other skills:

·       Ability to engage vocational learners and adapt teaching to meet a range of levels and needs of learners

·       Ability to plan and deliver lessons, and assess learners’ progress effectively

·       Good written and verbal communication skills

·       Good interpersonal skills

·       Good classroom practice

·       Good IT skills

·       Ability to use IT/e-learning within the curriculum and deliver online teaching, learning and assessment successfully

·       Good administration/organisational skills

·       Good team working skills
