About the role

A welcoming primary school in Havering is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Class Teacher to join its team from January.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or suitably qualified candidate with a strong interest in special educational needs. You will lead a primary SEND class, planning and delivering an engaging, personalised curriculum that supports every pupil’s academic, social, emotional and personal development.

The role would suit a teacher who is patient, creative and committed to ensuring that children with additional needs are supported to achieve their full potential.

Outer London teachers’ pay is supplemented by SEN allowances for eligible SEND responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons for pupils with SEND.
• Adapt the curriculum to meet individual learning, communication and developmental needs.
• Set clear, ambitious and achievable targets for every pupil.
• Use a range of inclusive teaching strategies and resources.
• Support pupils’ communication, independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Create a safe, calm and nurturing classroom environment.
• Assess, monitor and record pupil progress accurately.
• Contribute to EHCP reviews, annual reviews and individual support plans.
• Work closely with teaching assistants and effectively lead the classroom team.
• Collaborate with the SENCO, school leaders, parents, carers and external professionals.
• Promote positive behaviour through consistent, supportive and appropriate strategies.
• Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and pupil welfare.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching pupils with SEND in a primary, specialist or mainstream setting.
• A strong understanding of inclusive practice and differentiated learning.
• Knowledge of EHCPs, individual learning plans and the SEND Code of Practice.
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, such as Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties or social, emotional and mental health needs.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• High expectations for all pupils, regardless of ability or need.
• Strong classroom-management, communication and organisational skills.
• The ability to work effectively with colleagues, families and external agencies.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.

Experience with visual timetables, communication systems, sensory strategies, autism-specific approaches or positive behaviour support would be advantageous.
