About the role

A high-achieving academy in Brent is seeking a dedicated and inspiring English Teacher to join its committed team from January 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher who can deliver engaging and challenging English lessons across KS3, KS4 and KS5. The successful candidate will help students develop their reading, writing, communication and analytical skills while supporting their wider academic and personal development.

You will join a supportive team focused on high expectations, academic achievement and ensuring every student has equal access to excellent teaching and learning.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
• Teach English Language and Literature according to experience and curriculum requirements.
• Create a motivating, inclusive and safe learning environment.
• Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and personal development.
• Prepare effective lesson plans, resources and assessments.
• Monitor, assess and track students’ progress.
• Provide clear feedback to support students’ academic development.
• Act as a form tutor and support students’ wider wellbeing and progress.
• Motivate students and raise aspirations through a range of teaching strategies.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across the English department.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents, carers and external agencies.
• Contribute to curriculum development and wider academy life.

About you

The successful candidate will:

• Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
• Have a relevant undergraduate degree.
• Have successful secondary teaching experience, including teaching practice for suitable ECT applicants.
• Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4.
• Ideally have experience working in an 11–18 setting and/or a multi-ethnic urban school.
• Understand effective teaching and learning practice.
• Be committed to high expectations and equality of access for all students.
• Have experience planning lessons, developing resources and assessing students’ work.
• Have strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Be able to use ICT effectively to enhance learning.
• Work well as part of a team while managing responsibilities independently.
• Have excellent organisation and time-management skills.
• Be committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
