We are working in partnership with a leading Academy in Hertfordshire to recruit an ambitious and talented Second in Charge of English (2iC) to join their successful department from September 2026 on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English Teacher ready to take the next step in their career, or for an existing middle leader seeking a new challenge within a high-performing and forward-thinking academy. The English department is well-established, collaborative, and driven by a shared commitment to delivering outstanding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of English in leading and developing the department
  • Deliver high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
  • Assist with curriculum planning, assessment, and tracking of student progress
  • Lead on specific areas of responsibility (e.g. KS4 outcomes, literacy, or curriculum development)
  • Mentor and support colleagues to drive high standards of teaching and learning
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement strategies

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A degree in English or a related subject
  • Proven experience teaching English at secondary level, including KS4 and ideally KS5
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills
  • A passion for raising attainment and supporting student progress
  • The ability to inspire both students and colleagues
