Head of Latin & Classics
Location: Hertfordshire
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

We are proud to be working with a leading Academy in Hertfordshire to recruit an exceptional Head of Latin & Classics to join their team from September 2026 on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and knowledgeable educator to lead and develop a thriving Classics provision within a high-performing and academically driven school. The Academy is renowned for its strong curriculum, excellent outcomes, and commitment to both traditional and modern subjects, with Classics playing a valued role in its academic offer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Latin & Classics curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
  • Deliver engaging and challenging lessons that inspire a passion for classical languages and civilisation
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and achievement within the department
  • Mentor and support colleagues, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team
  • Contribute to whole-school academic strategy and enrichment opportunities

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A degree in Classics, Latin, or a related subject
  • Proven experience teaching Latin and/or Classics at secondary level (KS5 desirable)
  • Strong leadership skills or the ambition to step into a leadership role
  • A passion for classical education and the ability to inspire high achievement
