Trainee Plumbing, Gas & Low Carbon Tutor / Assessor

About the Role
A Bristol-based Training Academy is seeking a Plumbing, Gas and Low Carbon (Renewables) Tutor & Assessor to join its growing apprenticeships team. This is an excellent opportunity to help develop the next generation of plumbing and gas engineers while supporting the expansion of the centre’s low carbon provision.
The academy is very happy to consider experienced trades professionals who are not yet qualified as tutors or assessors. Full training, support and funding towards teaching and assessing qualifications will be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, high-quality training to plumbing, gas and low carbon / renewables apprentices in line with apprenticeship standards.
- Assess apprentices’ skills and knowledge both in the training centre and on-site in their workplace.
- Deliver Apprentice Assessment (previously EPA) preparation and training to ensure apprentices are fully ready for their final assessments.
- Act as a positive role model, embedding the Centre’s Mission and Values in day-to-day practice and promoting professional standards at all times.
- Use IT systems to monitor learner progress, update central tracking systems and complete reviews with apprentices and employers every 10–12 weeks.
- Monitor and provide feedback on learners’ Off-the-Job training journals on Moodle to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Set clear, achievable targets for apprentices and track their progress on Personal Development and related programmes.
About You
Essential:
- Strong industry experience in plumbing and gas installation, maintenance or building services.
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to apprentices at different levels.
- Confident using IT for admin, tracking learner progress and using online learning platforms.
- A genuine interest in helping people learn, with a commitment to high standards and safe working practices.
Desirable (training can be provided):
- Teaching or assessing qualifications (e.g. Level 3 Award in Education & Training, Assessor Award/TAQA).
- Experience mentoring, training or supervising others in a workplace or educational setting.
- Knowledge or strong interest in low carbon and renewable technologies (e.g. heat pumps, solar thermal, energy efficiency measures).
Unqualified candidates with solid trade experience and the right attitude towards teaching and learning will be fully supported to achieve the necessary education and assessment qualifications.
