Head of Computer Science
Location: Hertfordshire
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (dependent on experience)

An ambitious and forward-thinking Academy in Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint an inspiring Head of Computer Science to lead a growing and dynamic department from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Computer Science teacher or current middle leader looking to take the next step, to shape the vision and development of the subject across the school.

The Role
You will provide strong, strategic leadership for Computer Science, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 to 5. You will play a key role in curriculum development, staff support, and driving student engagement and achievement in this increasingly vital subject area.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Computer Science department to deliver outstanding teaching and learning
  • Developing and implementing a forward-thinking curriculum that reflects current industry and educational trends
  • Monitoring student progress and implementing strategies to raise attainment
  • Supporting and developing staff through coaching and mentoring
  • Promoting digital literacy and wider participation in computing across the school

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong subject knowledge in Computer Science and/or ICT
  • Proven track record of successful teaching and student outcomes
  • Experience in a leadership or second-in-department role
  • Passion for innovation in technology and education
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
