Head of Mathematics
Location: Hertfordshire
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (dependent on experience)

An ambitious and forward-thinking Academy in Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint an inspiring Head of Mathematics to lead a successful and well-established department from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Maths teacher or current middle leader ready to take the next step, to drive standards and shape the strategic direction of Mathematics across the school.

The Role
You will provide strong, visible leadership for the Maths department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages. You will be responsible for curriculum development, staff support and development, and improving student outcomes through innovative and evidence-based practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Maths department to deliver outstanding teaching and learning
  • Monitoring student progress and implementing strategies to raise attainment
  • Supporting and developing teaching staff through coaching and mentoring
  • Driving curriculum innovation and ensuring alignment with current educational standards
  • Contributing to whole-school leadership and improvement priorities

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven track record of strong teaching and student progress in Mathematics
  • Experience in a leadership role (e.g. Second in Department, Key Stage Lead, or similar)
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop both students and staff
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
