As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on both a 1:1 and small group basis, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional resilience, and thrive within a structured educational setting.

Key Responsibilities – SEMH Teaching Assistant

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting behaviour management in line with school policies
  • Encouraging emotional regulation, social development, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies
  • Helping to maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally supporting SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • A calm, patient, and compassionate approach
  • Excellent relationship-building abilities with pupils and staff
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs
