Job Overview

An inclusive and forward-thinking primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a committed Primary SENCO to join its leadership team on a maternity cover basis.

This Primary SENCO role is based in a diverse, high-achieving school where inclusion is central to everything they do. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Primary SENCO or aspiring inclusion leader to take ownership of SEND provision across the school and make a meaningful impact during this maternity cover period.

Key Responsibilities – Primary SENCO

As the Primary SENCO, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the primary phase as the designated Primary SENCO
  • Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress to ensure effective and timely interventions
  • Support teachers in delivering high-quality inclusive practice across the school
  • Work closely with families, external agencies, and specialists as the school’s Primary SENCO
  • Ensure full compliance with SEND legislation and maintain accurate records
  • Contribute to wider school improvement and inclusion priorities in your capacity as Primary SENCO

Person Specification – Primary SENCO

The successful Primary SENCO will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • NASENCO qualification (National Award for SEN Coordination)
  • Strong experience working as or alongside a Primary SENCO in a primary setting
  • Secure knowledge of SEND frameworks, legislation, and inclusive practice
  • Excellent communication skills with pupils, staff, and families
  • A clear commitment to high expectations and inclusive education as a Primary SENCO
