A high-performing and forward-thinking academy in Hertfordshire is seeking an ambitious and inspiring Head of English to lead a successful department from September. This is a permanent opportunity offering London Fringe salary and the chance to shape the strategic direction of English across Key Stages 3–5.

The Role

  • Lead and develop a high-performing English department
  • Drive outstanding teaching and learning across KS3–KS5
  • Monitor progress and raise attainment across all ability levels
  • Develop and implement an ambitious, engaging curriculum
  • Support, mentor, and develop teaching staff
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement strategies

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven track record of strong outcomes in English
  • Experience in leading or supporting a department (essential for leadership role)
  • Passionate about literature, language, and student achievement
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills
