A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in North London is seeking a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding role supporting pupils with additional needs across EYFS, KS1 or KS2, helping them access learning, build confidence, and thrive within a mainstream classroom environment.

The Role

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to support children with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional or behavioural needs.

Your role may involve providing 1:1 support, leading small-group interventions, adapting learning activities, and helping pupils regulate emotions and behaviour so they can fully engage in lessons. You will play a key part in creating a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom where every child feels valued and understood.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
  • Support access to the curriculum through differentiated and adapted activities.
  • Follow Individual Education Plans (IEPs), EHCP targets, and behaviour support plans.
  • Promote communication, independence, confidence, and social development.
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and wider support staff.
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN in a primary school setting.
  • Experience or interest in working across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.
  • Confident and consistent approach to positive behaviour management.
  • Patient, resilient, and caring nature with a genuine passion for supporting children.
  • Level 3 qualification in Childcare, SEN, Supporting Teaching & Learning, Education, or relevant experience (graduates with SEN experience, or non graduates with significant experience are encouraged to apply).
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).

Why This School?

  • Supportive and approachable leadership team with a strong inclusive ethos.
  • Well-established SEN provision within a mainstream setting.
  • Access to CPD and opportunities for professional development.
  • Friendly, collaborative staff team who value teamwork and wellbeing.
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to children’s learning and confidence.

We are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. As a Primary SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will have a safeguarding responsibility if appointed. The successful Primary SEN Learning Support Assistant role candidate will be subject to enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service and employment will be subject to references.
