Part-Time SEN Teaching Assistant (Mental Health Focus)
Location: Wandsworth, London
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Part-time (2 or 3 days per week), ongoing
Pay: Competitive, depending on experience

Are you passionate about supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and helping them thrive in school life? We’re seeking a nurturing and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant, specialising in mental health support, to join a welcoming primary school in Wandsworth on a part-time basis (2 or 3 days per week).

The Role

You’ll work closely with pupils who experience social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges, providing consistent support that helps them engage positively in learning and build confidence. Working alongside teachers and the school’s SEND team, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individual education and behaviour plans (IEPs).
  • Support children in managing emotions, regulating behaviour, and building positive relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to adapt learning strategies.
  • Create a calm, inclusive environment that supports emotional safety and wellbeing.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to regular reviews and reports.

About You

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or additional needs (preferably in a school setting).
  • A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine interest in supporting children’s mental health and personal development.
  • Relevant qualifications (such as Level 2/3 TA or SEND training) are desirable but not essential — a positive attitude and willingness to learn are what matters most.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful impact in children’s lives, working as part of a friendly and supportive primary school team.
