SEN Learning Support Assistant – Primary Specialist Provision
Location: Barnet, North London
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 8:15am – 4:15pm
Pay: £95–£110 per day (term time only)

A friendly, inclusive primary school in North London is looking to welcome a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant into their specialist classroom within the school. This is a rewarding position working closely with 8 children in Years 1 and 2 who require a bespoke, supportive environment before accessing mainstream learning.

The Role

As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will be part of a highly committed SEND team, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs through personalised, structured activities. You will help develop early learning skills, communication, sensory awareness, and emotional regulation, ensuring each child feels safe, understood, and ready to engage.

Your day could include guiding small-group learning, supporting 1:1 interventions, facilitating sensory breaks, or calmly helping children work through moments of dysregulation. Creativity, patience, and strong behaviour management are essential as you work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group support to pupils in a specialist KS1 SEND classroom.
  • Follow individual education plans and behaviour support strategies.
  • Promote communication, independence, and social development.
  • Use positive behaviour techniques and de-escalation strategies confidently.
  • Maintain a calm, nurturing learning environment where children feel secure.
  • Liaise with teachers and support staff to ensure consistent, high-quality provision.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, ideally in EYFS/KS1.
  • Confident use of positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • A caring, resilient, and patient approach when supporting young learners.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome challenges and flourish.
  • Level 3 qualification desirable in Childcare, SEN, Supporting Teaching & Learning, Education—or relevant experience. (Undergraduates with SEN experience encouraged to apply.)
  • DBS on update service.

Why This School?

  • A supportive, approachable leadership team with a strong SEND ethos.
  • Opportunities for CPD and ongoing professional growth.
  • A collaborative staff culture built on respect and shared values.
  • The chance to play a meaningful role in each child’s progress and wellbeing.
