Assistant Headteacher

Start date: September [Year]
Salary: L10–L15 (Fringe)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join our senior leadership team from September. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the next phase of development in a successful 11–18 secondary school, recognised as good with outstanding features and driven by a clear moral purpose.

Our school is characterised by high expectations, strong routines, excellent behaviour and a calm, purposeful learning environment. We believe that outstanding teaching, underpinned by strong relationships and consistency, transforms lives. You will work closely with a supportive, principled and ambitious Headteacher who values people, invests in leadership development and leads with clarity and integrity.

A central responsibility of this role will be Teaching and Learning. The successful candidate will lead the continued refinement of classroom practice, ensuring teaching is consistently strong, knowledge-rich and ambitious, so that all students — regardless of background — achieve highly.

The ideal subject specialism is Mathematics; however applications are also warmly welcomed from candidates with expertise in:

  • English
  • Spanish / Modern Foreign Languages
  • Geography
  • Business
  • Physics

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading whole-school Teaching and Learning, securing consistency and excellence in classroom practice
  • Coaching, developing and holding colleagues to account with professionalism and care
  • Contributing strategically to school improvement planning and self-evaluation
  • Being a visible, influential presence who models the school’s values and expectations

We offer:

  • Polite, focused and aspirational students who are proud of their school
  • A strong culture of discipline, respect and academic ambition
  • A highly supportive leadership team with a commitment to staff wellbeing
  • High-quality professional development and genuine opportunities for leadership progression

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven record of impact
  • Believes deeply in the power of education to change lives
  • Has the credibility and presence to lead others with confidence and humility
  • Is ambitious for students, colleagues and themselves

This role would suit an experienced middle leader ready for senior leadership, or an existing Assistant Headteacher seeking a school with clarity of vision, strong foundations and the capacity for further excellence.
