We are seeking to appoint a committed, forward-thinking Assistant Headteacher (Secondary) to join our leadership team from April 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader who is passionate about high-quality education, collaborative working and driving whole-school improvement within a Good Ofsted-rated secondary school.

 

The successful Assistant Headteacher (Secondary) will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, ensuring excellent teaching and learning, and supporting staff and students to achieve their full potential. Prior experience within a leadership or middle leadership role in a secondary school is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Development
As Assistant Headteacher (Secondary), you will support the Headteacher and senior leaders in developing, articulating and delivering the school’s strategic vision. You will model the school’s values, contribute to self-evaluation and improvement planning, and support the effective implementation of change.

 

Teaching, Learning and Students
The Assistant Headteacher (Secondary) will champion high standards of teaching and learning, ensuring that the curriculum meets the needs of all students. You will promote inclusive and aspirational practice, maintain robust systems for assessment and progress tracking, and support strong behaviour, pastoral care and student welfare systems.

 

Leading and Managing Staff
In your role as Assistant Headteacher (Secondary), you will lead, motivate and develop staff, fostering a culture of high expectations and professional growth. You will support performance management processes, contribute to staff development and promote positive working relationships across the school.

 

Efficient and Effective Use of Staff and Resources
The Assistant Headteacher (Secondary) will ensure the effective deployment of staff and resources to maximise impact on student outcomes. You will support operational efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on quality, sustainability and value for money.

 

Accountability
You will hold responsibility for key areas of school performance, using data and evaluation to drive improvement. The Assistant Headteacher (Secondary) will contribute to accountability processes at school and Trust level, ensuring high standards are maintained and continuously improved.
