Learning Support Assistant

 

What skills and experience we're looking for:

We are looking for a Primary SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant with a professional qualification or extensive experience of children with special educational needs. You will have a positive approach and be keen to broaden your knowledge; however, it is essential that you have good subject knowledge with excellent Literacy and Numeracy skills.

 

What the school offers its staff

Our Primary School is a good school (OFSTED November 2025) located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in Thamesmead. It is a three form entry with pupils aged 2 to 11 years old. It also has a designated provision for autistic pupils.

·         £95-£120 per day

·         Full time, Long term

·         Immediate start

·         Will need to have a DBS on the update system or be willing to obtain one

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

·         Meet NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant standards or equivalent qualification or experience in SEN

·         Excellent numeracy / literacy / ICT skills - equivalent to

·         NVQ level 2/GCSE in English and Maths

·         Full working knowledge of relevant policies / codes of practice / legislation

·         Working knowledge of national curriculum and other relevant learning programmes

·         Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning

·         Understanding of the range of support services / providers

 

Experience

·         Experience of working with children of primary age

·         Experience of working with children with additional needs

·         Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour

·         Excellent numeracy / literacy skills

·         Ability to plan effective actions for pupils at risk of underachieving

·         Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities

·         Ability to relate well to children and adults

·         Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
