Our Business School, based at Uxbridge Campus, offers a range of vocational and professional programmes from Level 1 to Level 5 with Pearson as the awarding body, and professional certificates such as the CIPD, AAT and CMI.

As a Lecturer in Business, Finance and Accounting, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching across professional and vocational programmes (Levels 2–5), including business, finance, and accounting. You will support learners in both classroom and workplace settings, ensuring they develop the skills and knowledge required for successful careers or further study. You will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to excellence in teaching, learning, and employer engagement.

You will need to possess a degree in Business or a related area, or an appropriate professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, ACA) and will have teaching experience gained within Further Education or a Secondary school setting, including experience of delivering Accounting, Finance and BTEC qualifications from Level 2 to Level 5.

We will support you to develop your career in teaching, including fully funding the Level 5 teacher training qualification, if you do not already possess this, which is undertaken at the College.  

BACKGROUND

 

The post of lecturer involves considerable subject-based and pedagogic knowledge and understanding, and it is therefore essential that the post holder has a motivation for keeping themselves up to date with developments in their professional area and also in the practises of teaching and learning.  Lecturing is more than just teaching; it includes all aspects of the learning process, including preparation and planning, and the assessment and evaluation of students.  All post holders are expected to consistently review and assess their performance alongside colleagues and engage in positive and critical debate on pedagogic issues.  All lecturers must be committed to inclusive learning and ensuring that they take on the very best practice to meet individual learner needs including the promotion of equal opportunities.  All staff are required to implement College policies.  Further Education is an ever-changing service and all staff are expected to participate constructively in College activities and to adopt a flexible approach to their work.  This job description will be reviewed annually during the appraisal process and will be varied in the light of the business needs of the College.

 

Qualifications

·       A degree in Business or related subject area, or appropriate professional qualification e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, ACA

·       English and Maths at GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve

·       Minimum Level 5 teaching qualification (DET, PGCE)** or willingness and ability to work towards qualification, supported by the College

 

Knowledge and Experience:

·       Teaching experience in Further Education or a Secondary school

·       Able to demonstrate high levels of student engagement, retention and achievement

·       Business experience including experience in accountancy/finance

·       Up-to-date knowledge of the relevant subject area

·       Teaching experience in the subject area, including experience of delivering Accounting and Finance qualifications and BTEC qualifications Level 2 to Level 5

 

Other Skills:

·       Good classroom practice

·       The ability to enthuse and inspire students aged 16-19

·       Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with employers

·       Good communication skills, written and verbal

·       Good IT skills

·       Good interpersonal skills

·       Ability to work effectively as part of a team
