Lecturers in ESOL
(Permanent and Part time roles available)
Harrow-on-the-Hill and Harrow Weald Campuses
£32,455 to £45,260 per annum including London Weighting - pro-rata for part time posts
We are seeking to appoint Lecturers in ESOL (1 permanent full time post and 1 permanent part time post), to teach on full and part-time ESOL courses on a range of levels from Pre-Entry to Level 2 including group tutorials, numeracy and IT for ESOL.
You will possess a minimum of Level 3 in a relevant vocational area, together with an approved English Language Specialist Teaching qualification (minimum CELTA/ Cert TESOL) and should have experience of teaching ESOL, preferably in an FE setting. You should also be able to deliver Numeracy (Entry to Level 1) or Essential Digital Skills/vocational subjects to ESOL students. You will possess a Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector, or be willing to work towards this, supported by the College. You will be willing and able to teach 1 evening per week until 9.00pm.
The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning, and to develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience.
· To teach on full and part-time ESOL courses on a range of levels from Pre-Entry to Level 2 including group tutorials, numeracy and IT for ESOL. This may involve some evening classes.
· Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and resource materials for teaching programmes.
· Carry out formative and summative (tests, coursework and exams), assessment of students and use target setting to maximise success.
· Monitor students’ attendance, progress and achievement. Use tracking software for ILPs and assessment and prepare relevant reports.
· Contribute to curriculum development, including schemes of work and marketing of courses.
· Take a leadership role on specific courses.
· Utilise IT and e-learning to deliver elements of the curriculum.
· Where appropriate integrate the delivery and assessment of Functional Skills into the curriculum.
· Prepare assessment plans and schedules and ensure students are aware of expectations.
· Assess students’ progress regularly including the timely marking of work and giving feedback, both written and verbal.
· Work towards the integration of students’ basic skills’ development in the delivery of teaching and learning.
· To ensure that students attend and achieve on all areas of their study programmes including maths, English and work experience.
Qualifications:
· A relevant degree, or qualified to a minimum of Level 3 in a relevant vocational area
· A recognised English Language Teaching qualification (minimum CELTA or Cert TESOL); ESOL specialism preferred
· Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (DET or equivalent) or willingness to undertake teacher training qualification supported by the College
· Maths and English at GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent or willing to achieve this
Knowledge and Experience:
· Successful teaching experience in ESOL in Further Education, with a strong track record of teaching both 16-18 year old and adult learners
· Ability and experience of teaching Numeracy (Entry to Level 1) to ESOL students and experience of teaching IT/Essential Digital Skills/vocational subjects to ESOL students
· Experience of course co-ordination and curriculum development in the FE sector
· Up-to-date knowledge of the relevant subject area
· The ability to engage, inspire and motivate learners (young learners and adults)
· Sensitivity towards and awareness of the needs of students from different backgrounds
