SEMH Teaching Assistant (Part-Time, Mornings Only) – Camden – ASAP start

Location: Camden, North London
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:45am–12:00pm (3 paid hours daily, 15-min unpaid break)
Pay: £13.87–£14.77 per hour (PAYE)
Start Date: ASAP

We are looking for a calm, reliable and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a KS2 child with social, emotional and mental health needs. The role is mornings only, making it well-suited to candidates studying or seeking part-time work alongside other commitments.

About the Role

  • Supporting a child whose SEMH needs stem from early childhood trauma
  • No formal diagnoses, though suspected ADHD and/or Autism
  • Helping the child engage with learning and access the curriculum in a positive way
  • Providing consistent emotional and behavioural support with clear boundaries
  • Working closely with the class teacher and inclusion staff to provide tailored strategies

The Ideal Candidate

  • Mature and professional approach when working with children
  • Natural warmth and genuine interest in supporting the child’s progress
  • Able to set clear boundaries while remaining patient and supportive
  • Some experience with SEMH needs or an interest in developing this skillset is desirable
  • Ideal for someone currently studying (e.g. psychology, education, SEN-related fields) who wants hands-on classroom experience

Academic Requirements

  • Minimum Grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English
  • Ideally Level 3 qualified (or equivalent) or studying towards an undergraduate degree in education, psychology, or a related field
  • Candidates currently studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree will also be considered
