Are you passionate about breaking down barriers and empowering Deaf and hard of hearing learners? We're seeking a dedicated Communication Support Worker to join a thriving FE college in Cambridgeshire, where your BSL skills will open doors to educational success.

The Role - Communication Support Worker

Working within the Supported Learning department, you'll be the vital communication bridge between Deaf learners, teaching staff, and peers across diverse educational settings. From classroom support to residential trips, you'll ensure every student has optimal access to their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide BSL/SSE interpretation and communication support in classrooms
  • Adapt learning materials and modify language for accessibility
  • Support students during examinations following awarding body guidelines
  • Advise teaching staff on communication strategies and environmental modifications
  • Facilitate technical aids and assistive technology
  • Support college trips and residential activities

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language - your signing skills are crucial!
  • GCSE Maths & English (or Level 2 equivalent)
  • Experience supporting learners in FE or educational settings
  • Experience working with Deaf learners
  • Level 1 Award in Deaf Awareness and Communication
  • Own transport - for off-site support activities

Highly Desirable:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf learners
  • Level 3 Award in Modifying Written English Texts for Deaf People
  • BATOD membership
