The Role – SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and SENCO to support students in Key Stages 3 or 4 with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN
• Assisting in the delivery of tailored interventions to support learning and personal development
• Encouraging engagement in lessons and promoting positive behaviour
• Helping students develop confidence and independence
• Working closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for students
• Adapting learning materials to suit the needs of individual pupils

Person Specification – SEN Teaching Assistant

• A strong academic background – degree, A-levels, and GCSEs – ideal
• Experience working in education, specifically students with SEN, or a good understanding of this – ideal. More important are your consistency, emotional intelligence, and willingness to learn.
• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine passion for education and inclusion
• The ability to work proactively and adapt to the needs of different learners
• Reliable, resilient and dedicated
