About this Role

We are looking for a dynamic special school for students aged 11–16 with speech, language, and communication needs. We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to provide tailored support and help students achieve their full potential.

About the Role

Working closely with our Head of SEN, Speech & Language Therapists (SaLT) and other experienced teaching professionals, your role will be to:

  • work with small groups of pupils or one to one as required, implementing personalised learning programmes in or outside lessons.
  • support pupil’s active engagement and behaviour in the classroom, around the school building, and at breaks/lunchtimes.
  • assist teachers in planning lessons and resources for a particular subject area.
  • enhance the provision for pupils by taking responsibility for specific long-term projects or short-term learning activities.
  • support teachers in monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on pupil achievement, progress and development.
  • engage with training provided by the SaLT, OT, Wellbeing, Behaviour and Mentoring teams, implementing universal strategies that promote the development of personal, social and communication skills for all pupils.
  • promote a neuro-affirmative approach, celebrating the unique strengths and differences of all pupils. 

Person Specification

·       Excellent degree (minimum 2.1) in a relevant subject

·       Genuine and demonstrable interest in working with young people and education. Commitment to achievement for all, regardless of background or ability.

·       Excellent literacy and communication skills.

·       Ability to lend subject-specialism to the learning and development of secondary-school pupils. Enthusiasm, initiative, resilience and pro-activity.

·       Willingness to learn and participate in a dynamic educational setting.

·       Ability to be a role-model to young people.
