The Opportunity - Uniformed Services Section Manager

We are seeking an outstanding Section Manager to lead our vibrant Uniformed Services department. You will play a pivotal role in preparing ambitious learners for careers in the emergency services and armed forces, overseeing programmes that offer direct routes to employment, university, and specialist training.

As Section Manager, you will report to the Head of School for Sport, Travel, and Uniformed Services, managing a diverse curriculum that spans Level 1 to Level 5 qualifications, including NCFE and Higher Education pathways.

What You’ll Do - Uniformed Services Section Manager

  • Drive Programme Excellence: Lead the development, delivery, and management of innovative programmes that connect learning to real-world careers.
  • Inspire and Mentor: Line manage and support both academic and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence and professional growth.
  • Teach and Engage: Deliver high-quality teaching across a range of programmes, sharing your industry expertise directly with learners.
  • Build Industry Links: Lead employer engagement and work experience initiatives, opening doors for our students.
  • Create Enriching Experiences: Organise day trips, residential expeditions, and enrichment activities that bring learning to life.

What You Bring

Essential Qualifications

  • You must hold a Level 3 qualification in Business, Sport, or A levels in Law.
    (Applicants without one of these qualifications will not be considered.)
  • You must have substantial industry experience in the forces or emergency services (e.g., police, fire, ambulance, military).
  • A full Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector (e.g., DET, PGCE) or willingness to work towards this.
  • D1 (minibus) driving licence or willingness to obtain.
  • Assessor awards and a management qualification are desirable.

Knowledge & Experience

  • At least 3 years’ successful teaching experience in a relevant subject area (Uniformed Services, Sport, or related).
  • Experience delivering awarding body programmes (NCFE/BTEC).
  • Team leadership and curriculum management experience.
  • Proven track record in supporting and developing teaching staff.
  • Understanding of FE funding and quality assurance processes.
