We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, highly motivated and committed Head of Drama to lead the successful Drama department within our Physical and Arts Education (PAE) Cluster from September 2025.
The successful candidate will have a proven record in teaching Drama up to A Level and experience of curriculum development. The candidate must have outstanding theatre knowledge and an understanding of current trends in the world of the Performing Arts.
General Responsibilities
- Leading the development and implementation of the department's curriculum, ensuring it aligns with national guidelines and meets the needs of our diverse student population.
- Experience in managing and motivating teams of teachers.
- Supporting teachers in their professional development, providing subject-specific advice, guidance, and resources to foster effective teaching practices.
- To carry out the general duties and responsibilities of a professional school teacher as contained in the annual School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and Staff Code of Conduct.
- To implement whole school, cluster and year policies.
- To take part in scheduled meetings with colleagues and parents in accordance with the school’s published calendar.
- To share in break duties in accordance with published rotas.
- To share cover for absent colleagues in accordance with the school’s schedules.
- To participate in whole school, cluster, pastoral and individual arrangements for her/his in-service training and professional development.
- To be a member of a cross-curricular team.
- Use Microsoft Teams in a constructive way as part of your teaching and pastoral roles
Criteria:
- Good, relevant degree
- QTS qualification with previous and relevant teaching experience in the UK
- Sound subject knowledge with clear evidence of the ability to develop schemes of work and lead the curriculum area
- Enthusiastic and committed to drama and theatre as an art form
- Enthusiastic subject leader who is well organised, conscientious and flexible
- Ability to teach Drama to A level
- Committed to leading extracurricular activities and drama/dance productions
- Willing to teach a wide variety of drama genre
- Ability to lead and work as a member of a team
- Ability to bring innovation to the department
- Commitment to equal opportunities

- Strong record of punctuality and attendance
- Strong communication skills with demonstrable capability to represent the department in a variety of for a
- Ability to use ICT for administrative purposes and to enhance curriculum delivery
