The Role

We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Head of PE and Enrichment to lead our Physical Education department and coordinate the school’s wider enrichment programme. This is a key leadership position, offering the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of physical education and co-curricular activities across the school. The successful candidate will be passionate about sport, student well-being, and developing opportunities that enhance the overall student experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership of the PE department and enrichment provision across the school.
  • Teach PE from Key Stage 3 to AS Level, with strong subject knowledge and innovative practice.
  • Develop and deliver a broad and balanced PE curriculum that promotes health, fitness, teamwork, and lifelong participation in sport.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and evaluation of the school’s enrichment programme, including clubs, activities, events, and trips.
  • Inspire staff and pupils to engage enthusiastically in co-curricular opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages personal growth and achievement.
  • Line-manage members of the PE department and support their professional development.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, providing timely feedback and intervention.
  • Contribute to the school’s wider leadership through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to whole-school initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A DfE-recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent) from a UK university.
  • Substantial experience teaching PE in a British curriculum setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, either as Head of Department or in a similar role.
  • Proven ability to plan and deliver high-quality PE lessons and enrichment activities.
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for holistic education and co-curricular development.

Desirable:

  • Ability to teach PE up to GCSE and AS Level.
  • Experience teaching swimming and holding an accredited swim teacher qualification.
  • Recent teaching or leadership experience in the UK or an international British school.
  • Experience working with students across both Primary and Secondary age groups.
