Job Overview

We are looking to appoint a Speech & Language Therapy Teaching Assistant to work in our Primary School. The ideal candidate will be someone who is degree-educated, with a passion for supporting students with Speech & Language difficulties, working closely with the SENCO, Speech & Language Therapists and classroom teachers.

The role involves supporting the development and implementation of speech and language interventions/programmes within the classroom, with the opportunity for continued professional development and training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and prepare visual materials for therapy and classroom sessions.
  • Work closely under the supervision of a Speech & Language Therapist and class teachers to deliver speech and language interventions.
  • Provide support to less experienced colleagues, modelling best practices.
  • Keep accurate written records of pupil observations and progress.
  • Assist in delivering training to other staff and colleagues.
  • Carry out general Teaching Assistant duties as required by the school.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Educated to degree level (ideally in a related field such as Linguistics, Psychology, Education, or Speech & Language Therapy)
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with Speech & Language difficulties
  • A passion for supporting students in their learning and development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
  • Motivated to continue developing professionally and contribute to the success of the department
