Pastoral Mentor - Primary School, Islington – September 2025

Role: Pastoral Mentor

Contract: Long-term, Full-time (1 Academic Year)
Start Date: September 2025
End Date: July 2026
Salary: £25,000 - £33,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
Hours: 08:30 - 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday (term-time only)

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Pastoral Mentor to join our welcoming primary school community in North London for the upcoming academic year. This is a fantastic opportunity to positively impact the lives of children who need additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Working outside the traditional classroom setting, you'll focus on delivering specialized emotional literacy programmes and targeted SEMH interventions to help our pupils thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support for children with SEN/SEMH challenges
  • Design and deliver emotional literacy programmes and SEMH-focused interventions
  • Utilise effective behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies for pupils experiencing emotional dysregulation
  • Collaborate closely with our experienced SENCO and Learning Mentor team
  • Develop and implement personalized support strategies and intervention plans
  • Foster a nurturing, therapeutic environment for pupils facing emotional difficulties
  • Assess pupil progress and maintain detailed records of interventions and outcomes

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in behaviour management with proven success in de-escalation techniques
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN/SEMH needs within educational environments
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to build rapport with children and staff
  • High levels of patience, understanding, and emotional resilience
  • Capability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to team objectives
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS clearance (essential)
  • Two professional references (mandatory)
