About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Technology Assistant to support the Art & Design and Design & Technology (D&T) departments at our secondary school in Southwark. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth running of practical lessons by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and supporting both staff and students in creative and technical activities.

Key Responsibilities - Technology Assistant

  • Prepare and maintain materials, equipment, and resources required for Art & Design and D&T lessons and projects
  • Assist teaching staff in setting up practical lessons and demonstrations
  • Support students during practical activities, ensuring safe and effective use of tools and machinery
  • Maintain and carry out routine checks on workshop tools, equipment, and machinery, arranging repairs as necessary
  • Manage stock levels, order resources, and keep accurate records of materials and equipment
  • Ensure all equipment and workspaces are clean, safe, and well-organized
  • Support the use of CAD/CAM technologies such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and relevant software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, SketchUp, Fusion 360) where applicable
  • Assist with health and safety compliance, including risk assessments and safe storage of materials
  • Collaborate with department staff to develop teaching aids and resource materials
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities

 

Person Specification - Technology Assistant

  • Experience or strong interest in Art, Design, and Technology practical work and equipment
  • Ability to work confidently and safely with workshop tools and machinery, including woodwork tools
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM technologies and relevant software is advantageous
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support staff and students effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to health and safety and safeguarding in a school environment
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is desirable but not essential
