Makaton SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Camden – ASAP or September 2025 start
Location: Camden, Primary School
Start Date: ASAP or September 2025
Pay: £13.85 per hour (via PAYE)
Hours: 8:30am – 5:30pm (7.5 hours paid, 1 hour unpaid break), Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Makaton SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Camden. This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting children with special educational needs who is confident using Makaton and is happy to provide personal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and group support for pupils with SEN, using Makaton to aid communication.
- Assist with personal care routines, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
- Support the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, sharing updates with staff and families.
- Encourage independence and engagement in all aspects of school life.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting children with SEN in a school setting.
- Confident using Makaton for communication support.
- Willingness to provide personal care as part of daily routines.
- Patient, empathetic, and flexible approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
