A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Pastoral Support Worker to join a vibrant and inclusive all-boys secondary school in the heart of Barnet. This vital role supports our vision for inclusion and well-being across the school, focusing on delivering high-quality interventions for some of our most vulnerable students.

The Role:

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (A*-C/9-4 in English/Maths)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work, Counselling, or similar (or equivalent experience)
  • Safeguarding training (essential)

Experience

  • 1:1 mentoring of vulnerable students (SEMH/SEND)
  • Behaviour management using restorative approaches
  • Attendance improvement strategies and parent liaison
  • Crisis intervention for safeguarding concerns

Skills & Competencies

  • Active listening to build trust with disengaged pupils
  • Data tracking for monitoring welfare/attendance
  • Collaboration with SENCOs, social workers, and external agencies
  • Workshop delivery on topics like bullying/online safety

Personal Qualities

  • Empathetic resilience in high-pressure situations
  • Non-judgmental attitude towards diverse backgrounds
  • Initiative to create tailored support plans
  • Confidentiality regarding sensitive student information

Desirable

  • Youth Mental Health First Aid certification
  • Experience with EHCPs
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
