Job Description - High Skills Technician: Mechanical Engineering

  • Ensure general maintenance and undertake simple repairs for the equipment within the Mechanical Engineering Section
  • Provide assistance to lecturers in preparing equipment and resources for teaching and learning
  • Be responsible for maintaining tools and equipment to an efficient level
  • Carry out risk assessments and recommend improvements to ensure all aspects of health and safety are complied with
  • To raise purchase order request forms in order to maintain stock levels of materials and tools at a level which enables effective teaching and learning
  • To supervise, with / without the Lecturer, students working within the laboratories with respect to health and safety and good working practice issues
  • To demonstrate equipment to students if requested by Lecturers
  • To supervise students during practical support/ project lessons / directed study including during evenings
  • Full time (36 hours) permanent role
  • £30,711 to £32,642 per annum

Person Specification - High Skills Technician: Mechanical Engineering

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 2 years’ experience in mechanical test equipment
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Health and Safety requirements particularly applied to machine shop environments
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with young people
  • Commitment to learners and learner achievement
