Lecturer - Uniformed Services – Uxbridge – Permanent Contract

Uniformed Services at the College is a highly successful area of provision, providing excellent training opportunities for young people seeking a career in the Uniformed Public Services or progression into HE.  Students are highly motivated, and we create a disciplined learning environment that prepares them for a career in the Police, Armed Services, Fire Brigade, Ambulance and Security Services.

At Clarus Education, we are working with a FE College who are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional to teach on a range of programmes in Policing and the Uniformed Services, including NCFE Levels 1 – 3 and Higher National Diploma.  

The role will involve attending outdoor and residential activities and delivering / supporting some fitness training.  You will also need to be able to drive a minibus or be prepared to undertake relevant training.

You will need to:

• Be qualified to a minimum of Level 3 in a relevant subject area, and have work experience in the Police, other emergency services or the Armed Services
• Have some teaching/training experience is desirable, but more important is the ability to communicate effectively and be able to engage young people aged 16-19.  If you are not a trained teacher, the College will fully fund and support you to obtain this qualification

Qualifications

• Minimum of Level 3 qualification
• A recognised teaching qualification for the FE sector at Level 5 or above (e.g. PGCE, DET) ** or willingness and ability to work towards a teaching qualification, supported by the College
• Emergency First Aid certificate or willing or obtain
• Clean driving licence and willingness and ability to undertake minibus driving training
• Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification
• Sport coaching qualifications
• D1 Driving License

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Relevant experience in the Uniformed Public Services (Armed Forces and/or Emergency Services)
• Teaching or training experience in the subject area
• Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area
• Willingness to engage in outdoor pursuits and residential activities
• Summer Mountain Leader (training) qualification or equivalent or willingness to work towards
• Ability to deliver fitness training
• Ability to instruct and lead map and compass/ navigational activities

Other

• The ability to engage and inspire vocational learners, primarily aged 16-19
• Good communication skills, written and verbal
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good classroom practice
• Good IT skills
• Ability to use IT/e-learning within the curriculum
• Ability and willingness to work flexibly, including early morning start time (8.00am) when required
• Good administration/organisational skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Commitment to learners and learner achievement.
