Fixed term - from January to August 2025 with potential to become permanent

Term Time only (32.5 hours per week – 39 weeks per year)

Actual Salary: £23,162 (Full time equivalent £29,703)

The Headteacher and governors of our Primary School are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant for our Autistic Resourced Provision  (3-5 year olds). 

This person will play a key role in supporting the teaching and learning needs of our Autism specialist provision (8-16 nursery & reception aged children with Autism or on a pathway to receiving a diagnosis of Autism).

Purpose of the job:

The Teaching Assistant will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team under the leadership and supervision of the teacher/senior staff. The Teaching Assistant will work with individuals/groups to supervise physical/general care of pupils, including those with SEND; enable access to learning for pupils and assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

Support for Pupils:

  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence

Person Specification:

Experience (essential requirements)

  • Working with or caring for children and young people, ideally in a similar environment.

Qualifications/Training (essential requirements)

  • NVQ 2 in teaching assistance or equivalent qualifications or experience
  • First aid training/training in specific medical procedures as appropriate
  • Participate in development and training opportunities

 

Knowledge/Skills (essential requirements)

  • Good numeracy/literacy skills
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning
  • Use of other equipment technology – video, photocopier
  • Knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
  • General understanding of national curriculum and other basic learning programmes
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of, children and young people
  • Commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Value and respect the views and needs of children and young people
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues within the organisation and with colleagues in other organisations
