We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our talented team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong TA experience to take on greater responsibility, supporting a range of children with diverse needs and contributing to the continued success of our school.

 

The Role: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

As an HLTA, you will complement the professional work of teachers by taking on agreed activities under supervision. This may include planning, preparing, and delivering lessons, assessing and reporting on student progress, and providing valuable support to ensure that all children achieve their best.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver learning activities to small groups or individual students, working alongside teachers to meet the learning needs of all pupils
  • Monitor and assess students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents about achievement, progress, and development
  • Work closely with students who have special educational needs, providing tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning
  • Take a lead role in the management of other Teaching Assistants, including allocation of work, appraisal, and training
  • Support students in becoming independent learners, promoting their self-esteem, and fostering their social development
  • Work to ensure all children, regardless of their background or needs, are included in all aspects of school life

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent qualification).
  • HLTA Status or significant equivalent experience in a school-based role is highly desirable.
  • At least two years’ school-based experience as a Teaching Assistant, with proven ability to manage and support children with diverse needs, including SEN.
  • Experience working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds and knowledge of the challenges they face.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills to support children’s learning effectively.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with teachers and other support staff.
  • Ability to manage and support small groups or individual pupils effectively.
  • Knowledge of learning barriers and strategies for overcoming them, including experience supporting children with special needs.
