Learning Support Assistant (Teaching Assistant)

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be part of a supportive and dedicated team. You will work closely with children, supporting their learning, development, and wellbeing in a Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 setting. You will help deliver tailored interventions and assist with both group and individual student support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and delivering differentiated learning activities to support individual student needs
  • Support children in their social and emotional development, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in school life
  • Supporting Teachers: Work alongside class teachers to provide effective and creative classroom management and ensure children’s needs are met
  • One-on-One Support: Provide individual support for pupils with additional learning needs, ensuring progress is monitored and encouraged
  • Record Keeping: Assist in tracking and recording pupil progress, helping to contribute to reporting and assessments
  • Safeguarding: Promote a safe and supportive learning environment, adhering to school safeguarding policies and procedures

 

Key requirements

  • Level 2 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) with proficient practical skills.
  • Previous experience of working with children in a classroom or support role is essential.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Basic IT skills to support teaching and record-keeping.
  • The ability to relate well to children and adults, understanding their needs and responding accordingly.
  • Influencing skills to encourage pupils to interact with others and develop social responsibility.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A solid understanding of child protection, health and safety, security, and equal opportunities policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and the importance of maintaining privacy.
