School Finance Officer – Southwark Secondary School

Are you an experienced Finance Officer with a strong background in school finance? If so, wear seeking a proactive and detail-oriented School Finance Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial management and sustainability of our growing academy trust, ensuring our schools run efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial operations of the academy trust, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and journal entries.
  • Month-End Procedures: Prepare monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income and expenditure reports, and VAT reconciliation.
  • Budgets and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of the academy's budget, monitor actual spend against forecasts, and provide accurate financial forecasting.
  • Accounting Systems: Use FMS (Financial Management System) to record transactions, generate reports, and maintain accurate financial records across multiple schools.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Communicate with suppliers, creditors, and debtors to manage payments, resolve queries, and maintain strong financial relationships.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, academy trust policies, and prepare documentation for audits and internal reviews.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Experience in School Finance: Proven experience as a Finance Officer or in a similar financial role within a school, academy, or education setting.
  • Proficiency in FMS: Strong working knowledge of FMS (Financial Management System) is essential.
  • Financial Expertise: Solid understanding of school accounting procedures, budget preparation, financial forecasting, and month-end reporting.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in all financial tasks.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with school staff, suppliers, and stakeholders.
