SEN Teacher – Secondary SEN School – Southwark

An ‘Outstanding’ SEN Secondary School located in Southwark are seeking a SEN Teacher

The school provides state of the art specialist facilities for students with Severe, Profound and Complex Learning needs. The facilities include a hydro therapy suite , art and design areas, food technology rooms, a space dedicated to physical exploration, music studio, a sensory trail and interactive lighting and touch screen ICT. Training is provided to enable staff to use all of the school facilities.

The school has developed its own curriculum framework which brings together Education Health and Care plan outcomes, curriculum schemes of work, learning intentions and a systematic way of monitoring student personal progress.

The students are unique in the way that they learn; they may experience difficulties with generalisation, memory retention, communication, problem solving, managing change, transitions and processing skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION – SEN Teacher

  • SEN Teacher
  • To ensure planning is detailed, differentiated and meets the schools’ expectations
  • To lead on ensuring the learning environment is attractive, positive & inspiring
  • To ensure assessment for learning / assessing progress is kept up to date, monitored and used effectively to support each child’s learning
  • Inspiring a unique atmosphere created by dedication and highly professional and caring staff 
  • To provide challenging, realistic and achievable tasks resulting in maximum learning
  • To encourage, develop and support relationships between families, staff and children
  • To report to and involve families in the development and achievement of children
  • Permanent Contract – Full Time – Janaury start

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION - SEN Teacher

  • Must have UK QTS
  • A range of experience in delivering the curriculum to children with SEMH
  • Further training or qualifications related to SEMH/SEN
  • Clear and demonstrable understanding of the National Curriculum, age related expectations and targets, the assessment process and school provision generally
  • Extremely strong ability to teach and work successfully with children with SEMH
  • Outstanding communication skills (with children, families & professionals)
  • Outstanding organisational skills
  • Experience of or a real passion for working with children and students with SEN
