SEMH Teaching Assistant – Islington – ASAP 2024  

 

An encouraging, hardworking and supportive school based in Islington is seeking a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their thriving school. The school are looking to offer the suitable candidate a long-term, full-time contract with an ASAP start.   

 

The role for the SEMH Teaching Assistant requires someone who has worked with young people with behavioural, social and/or emotional challenges. It is important that the successful SEMH Teaching Assistant understands the challenges of the role who strive to make a compassionate difference to the young people they support.

Role Description: 

  • SEMH Teaching Assistant (Social Emotional Mental Health)   
  • Working across KS1-KS4, depending on suitability, skills and prior experience 
  • Strong Behaviour Management abilities required  
  • Work closely within a team to problem solve  
  • Support in a classroom and break areas 
  • Provide and nurture a trusting relationship with students 
  • Provide 1:1 support and mentorship 
  • Easy road and rail transport links 
  • £85-£100 per day 

 

The SEMH Teaching Assistant role will involve assisting with the student’s lessons and work throughout the day, often supervising the students at break and lunch times and using training of safe methods of de-escalation of behaviour when required.   

 

Person Specification: 

  • Solid academics – degree, A levels and GCSEs 
  • Experienced with SEMH students in a PRU, SEN or Mainstream setting  
  • Passionate and proactive when it comes to working with SEMH  
  • Ability to empathise and communicate with SEMH students effectively  
  • You will need to be patient, compassionate and highly resilient 
  • Have a versatile & positive approach to supporting learning  
  • To have perseverance and be able to support and accept support where needed
