We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic and flexible 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our dynamic and committed Learning Support Team.

Job Title: 1 : 1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Location: Southwark

Contract Type: Long term

Salary: £100+ (depending on experience)

1 : 1 Learning Support Assistant – About the role:

The successful candidate should have experience helping children with their emotional regulation and social communication skills. They will be part of a wider Learning Support Team working across the school and will be answerable to the overarching Head of Inclusion and Enrichment.

This is a great opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to join our community. We are looking for a person who can quickly generate confidence and respect with pupils, and who is capable of fostering highly positive working relationships with children, parents and colleagues.

 

1 : 1 Learning Support Assistant –  Responsibilities:

  • Support the child’s learning in class, with a specific focus on their emotional regulation, social communication skills and following teacher-led instructions
  • Ensure a secure environment where the pupil feels safe and able to access their learning.
  • Facilitate the child in aspects of the school day, promoting independence, academic development and social integration
  • Support the child to make suitable choices, particularly when responding to adult-led instructions and socialising with peers
  • Adapt lessons or activities where necessary
  • Implement treatment programmes and strategies as instructed by the child’s OT and SALT, where necessary
  • Actively seek guidance and help with this when your own skills set requires and attend therapy sessions if needed
  • Support the child in all lessons (when required), facilitating active participation and development of the child’s own personal skills
  • Monitor and advise teaching staff / parents on the child’s ability to undertake expected classroom activities

1 : 1 Learning Support Assistant –  Person Specification:

  • Experience in supporting pupils in a classroom environment with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
  • The ability to demonstrate active listening skills and have strong verbal communication skills
  • A dedication to establishing positive relationships with pupils and understanding their needs
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships with pupils and colleagues, and to work as part of a team
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to monitor pupil responses and to modify or adapt the learning activity or
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • The ability to handle complex and sensitive issues with empathy and understanding
