ATTENDANCE MANAGER

Contract Type:  Term Time Only plus one week (40 weeks)

Contract Term:  Permanent

Hours:  36 hours, Monday – Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm, Friday 8:00am-3:45pm (45 minute break)

Salary:  £28,005

We are looking for a caring and resolute individual to join us in maximising opportunities for our young people through maintaining and improving student attendance. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual. You will be working to promote positive attitudes towards school attendance on the part of the students and their parents/carers ensuring students are present at school and deriving maximum benefit from their education. The successful applicant will be able to work adaptably with competing demands, often to tight deadlines.

An appreciation or experience of the school working environment and the demands of this type of role working with secondary age students in desirable but not essential. Further professional training will be available to the appointed candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • To build positive working relationships between the school, families and other stakeholders to maximise student attendance.
  • To be the first point of contact with families and other stakeholder for all attendance and punctuality related matters.
  • To communicate regularly with families to remind them of the school’s expectations with regards to attendance, punctuality and absence.
  • To be responsible for devising and implementing creative and innovative strategies that support the school in meeting agreed targets and outcomes for the school with respect to attendance and punctuality, tracking impact in order to guide and lead other staff with next steps in agreement with the school attendance champion.
  • To track attendance to identify those students in need of support by reason of their absence.
  • To manage, guide and support staff, parents and children in dealing with issues of concern.
  • To assist the school to safeguard students through joint work with partner agencies.
  • To identify and assess need and plan appropriate interventions, implement effective actions and evaluate impact of outcomes against agreed objectives, whilst involving students and parents in decisions whenever possible.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in the role of Attendance Officer in a school
  • Experience of establishing positive relationships with staff, students and parents
  • Experience of working with School Attendance Intervention Model including making referrals and issuing EPNs
  • Experience using Bromcom or similar MIS systems (e.g. SIMS, Arbor)
  • Experience of working effectively within a team and playing a motivating role

 

Qualifications and Training:

  • A good basic education to GCSE (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy. Or other evidence of being suitably numerate and literate in English
  • Evidence of commitment to own education and training
  • You will have or be willing to undergo appropriate First Aid training
