LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT – YEAR 2 CLASS
Contract Type: Term Time Only (39 weeks)

Salary: £100 per day

Purpose of the post:
To support the progress of students in school and to help ensure the successful adherence of the SEND Code of Practice.
- Establish positive relationships with students grounded in mutual respect.
- Support students with becoming more independent, preparing them for life beyond school.
- Supervise and provide support for students, including those with special needs, disabilities and those new to English.
- Set appropriate, challenging, and demanding expectations for all students and encourage a love for learning.
- Encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students and help to develop positive self-esteem.
- Assist with the identification and assessment of SEN and EAL needs, as required.
- Work with individual students, on a one-to-one basis, as required, supervised by the SENDCo or SEND Manager, or Inclusion Manager.
- Participate in the running of small group withdrawal activities, as required.
Experience:
- Experience of working effectively within a team and playing a motivating role
- Ability to work with flexibility and independence
- Experience with SEND/EAL would be an advantage
- You may have some experience working with challenging behaviour
- You will have some experience working with young people
- Previous experience of working in a school or other academic environment
Qualifications and Training:
- A good basic education to GCSE (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy. Or other evidence of being suitably numerate and literate in English
- You will have or be willing to undergo appropriate First Aid training
Knowledge and Skills:
- You have excellent literacy and communication skills, including proficiency in accurate written and spoken English – the ability to make points clearly and confidently, providing information and advice in accurate spoken English, and able to understand the views of others
- You have good numeracy skills (e.g. GCSE Mathematics)
- You have advanced ICT skills
