Role: English Teacher

Contract: Fixed Term – Maternity Cover (1 year – possibility to become permanent from September 2025)

Start Date: February 2025

Pay Scale: MPS/UPS (Outer London) – Negotiable depending on calibre & experience – suitable for experienced teachers and ECTs

Location: Richmond, SW London

We are looking to appoint an English teacher to join our department working with colleagues who are committed to delivering outstanding lessons across all key stages.

This is a maternity role anticipated to be for a one-year period, with potential to become permanent position from September 2025, depending on wider departmental recruitment.

The English department at our Secondary School is passionate about instilling a love of literature in all of our students. The curriculum is dynamic, challenging and carefully sequenced to ensure that all students make great progress, whether that be achieving a grade 5 at GCSE or an A* at A Level.

The team has high standards of themselves and students and are collaborative in their practice.

While we ask you to support our Catholic ethos, being a practising Catholic is not a requirement, we welcome applicants from any background.

Salary negotiable dependent upon calibre and experience.

English Teacher - Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree
  • Have successful teaching experience at secondary level (can be teaching practice), ideally including experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and of working in an 11-18 school
  • Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning
  • Understand the importance of high expectations and equality of access for all students, and of being a tutor
  • Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, (KS5 is advantageous) and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' work
  • Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff
  • Have a good level of ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive white boards
  • Be able to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students
  • Be able to communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessary
  • Have good written and spoken communication skills
  • Be able to lead and manage their own work effectively
  • Have excellent time management skills
  • Be able to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies
