Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

Hours of work: 35 hours per week,

Term Time only

Reports to: Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCO)

£90 – £110 per day

 

PURPOSE OF POST

To contribute to inclusive education by helping students, including those with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), access the curriculum, participate in the wider life of the school and make expected progress. This will include the need to work under the instruction and guidance of teaching staff to implement agreed programmes of work, both in and out of the classroom.

LINE MANAGER The post holder will report to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCO) and, if relevant, the Departmental Subject Leader. The post holder will also receive guidance from subject teachers. They will be accountable to the SENDCO.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote and support inclusion in all curriculum and extracurricular activities by encouraging and facilitating participation and learning
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with pupils to adapt to their needs and support their learning.
  • Model positive attitudes, values and behaviours.
  • Provide positive feedback and praise to the pupil in relation to progress and achievement.
  • Contribute to effective assessment and feedback by supporting the monitoring, recording and reporting of pupil performance and progress as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate regard for the need to safeguard pupils’ well-being by following relevant statutory guidance along with school policies and practice.

 

Other accountability and responsibilities:

  • To contribute to the support and supervision of students during out of lesson times including before school, break times and lunch times. Departments run a range of interventions including a range of lunch time clubs and after school activities.
  • To attend fortnightly after school department meetings.
  • To attend and contribute to regular review meetings including annual reviews and ILP meetings.
  • Undertake such additional duties as may be appropriate to fulfil the purpose of the post.
