SEN Specialists

Our SEN specialist positions are within dedicated special needs schools, as well as mainstream school settings. For a number of our positions, our client schools do require specific experience and qualifications, with some schools happy to consider those individuals looking to make the move in to working within special educational needs.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) affect a child’s ability to learn. These can include their:

  • Behaviour or ability to socialise
  • Reading and writing, e.g. dyslexia
  • Ability to understand things
  • Concentration levels, e.g. ADHD
  • Physical needs or impairments

Pupils with such needs are often eligible for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which is a legal document that sets out a description of each child’s needs and a plan to meet those needs by education, health and social care.

Whether working within a dedicated SEN or mainstream school, class sizes are typically smaller, with around 6-8 pupils, with a higher staff-to-pupil ratio than a typical classroom. SEN environments suit and require individuals with a genuine passion and interest in SEN, able to navigate through the daily challenges faced.

Supporting children who have been identified as having special educational needs or requiring additional support has been an increasingly fast-growing job sector for Clarus Education. Our specific SEN roles range from in-class support through to the management team.

  • 5 star review  I applied to Clarus Education in August 2017 and they were very prompt with getting in contact with me. I received an interview a week after applying, where Ali was very enthusiastic and helpful in getting to understanding what I wanted to get out of the job, as well as finding out what best works for me by looking at my skills and strengths. Even with no experience working with SEN, Ali was able to get me a trial day within 2 and a half weeks (as schools were only just starting for the year). My trail day was really enjoyable and by the end of the day I had managed to secure a place at the SEND school. He was also very good with replying to my questions and queries throughout the term. Initially, I had been contracted to work till December and as my contract drew to an end Ali met with the deputy of the school to discuss my next steps - luckily my contract has now been extended. I think Ali has been amazing throughout my time with Clarus Education. He has been understanding, incredibly helpful, and supportive throughout the whole process and I would most definitely recommend Clarus Education.

  • 5 star review  I graduated with a 2:1 in English Literature and Creative Writing this July and decided that I wanted to pursue a career in Secondary education. Looking to gain some experience, I applied to several teaching assistant positions and Clarus Education were speedy in contacting me. My candidate registration took place last Tuesday, where I was introduced to three members of the team (Ellen, Alison and Ryan); all of which were so kind, welcoming and reassuring. From the onset, the staff at Clarus Education proved to have my best interest at heart and their client care is unbeatable. Alison was my main contact and I cannot begin to tell you how fantastic she is! Alison really listened to me and went above and beyond to get me an interview at my dream school. She kept me in the loop, sending me regular emails and phoning me, and with her as my supervisor I never felt alone in the process. Now, only a week and two days after signing up with Clarus Education, I have been offered a position at the aforementioned school. If you're considering a career in education, look no further. Speaking from experience, you will not find a more helpful and efficient team than this one!
